Getting around San Diego County with a chauffeur
A county this long rewards a little planning. These are the things we think through with you before a booking is confirmed.
The freeways that matter
The I-5 carries most coastal traffic between the border, downtown, Carlsbad and Oceanside. The I-805 runs through the middle of the region, passing Chula Vista, National City and Mission Valley before rejoining the I-5 near Del Mar. The I-15 serves the inland corridor toward Poway and Escondido, and SR 78 links Oceanside, Carlsbad, Vista, San Marcos and Escondido.
Two airports, two kinds of trip
San Diego International (SAN) sits by the bay on North Harbor Drive and has Terminals 1 and 2. McClellan-Palomar (CLD) is a county-owned public airport in Carlsbad, a few miles southeast of the town center. Tell us which one you are using and we plan the pickup around it.
Downtown event nights
Padres games at Petco Park, concerts at the Rady Shell and conventions at the San Diego Convention Center all pull traffic into the same few blocks. Planning the drop-off point ahead of time keeps formal shoes off the sidewalk.
Coast and coastal events
The Del Mar Fairgrounds hosts the San Diego County Fair each summer, and weddings fill resorts such as Park Hyatt Aviara in Carlsbad and the Hotel del Coronado. These are the dates to book early.
Trips from Los Angeles
San Diego is roughly 120 road miles from downtown Los Angeles by way of the I-5. Long trips like that are by booking, and we agree the plan and price with you in advance.
Groups, families and extra cars
One SUV carries up to six guests with their bags. A larger wedding party or a delegation needs several cars, and we can schedule them to run together. Mention child seats, older guests and oversized luggage when you book, so the right vehicle is assigned.
When to book
Summer weekends, county fair dates, convention weeks and holiday travel days are the busiest. Reserve as soon as your plans are set, and call the 24/7 line if they change.
