Booking a car in San Diego, step by step
San Diego is a long, spread-out city, and where you start changes what a good plan looks like. These are the points we sort out with you before a ride is booked.
Where the airport fits in
San Diego International Airport is inside the city on San Diego Bay, about three miles northwest of downtown. Hotels in the Gaslamp Quarter, Little Italy and along the Embarcadero are the closest to it. La Jolla and Carmel Valley sit well to the north, so those rides are a different kind of trip.
Downtown and the bayfront
The San Diego Convention Center is at 111 W. Harbor Drive, next to the Hilton San Diego Bayfront and a short walk from Petco Park. During a conference or a ballgame, curb space nearby is tight. Tell us which hotel entrance or hall you are using when you book, and we plan the stop around it.
Mission Valley and the freeway grid
Interstate 8 runs along the south side of Mission Valley, and State Route 163 links the valley to downtown. If your day has stops in Hillcrest, North Park or Kearny Mesa, we describe the route in plain terms and keep the price fixed.
La Jolla and the north
La Jolla is home to Torrey Pines Golf Course and Scripps Research. Carmel Valley and the Fairmont Grand Del Mar are a little farther along. These rides cover more ground than a downtown hop, so we agree on the full route when you book.
Coming from the Los Angeles area
We have no office in San Diego. Our base is in Woodland Hills, roughly 146 road miles to the north, so every trip here is arranged by booking ahead from the Los Angeles area. Call 747-309-0639 and tell us the date, the pickup address and how many people are traveling.
