Car service in Downey, planned around the city
Downey is easy to drive and easy to underestimate. The streets are wide and the grid is simple, but four freeways touch the city and the choice among them changes with the clock. Here is how we plan a ride.
Which freeway, and when
The 105 carries most trips to LAX and across to the 110 and the 405. The 605 and the 5 matter for the Orange County line and the San Gabriel Valley, and the 710 runs north to Downtown and south toward the port. We choose the route by the hour, because the on-ramp that works at ten may be a crawl at five.
Firestone, Lakewood and Imperial
Firestone Boulevard runs through the middle of the city, Lakewood Boulevard crosses it north to south and Imperial Highway marks the south side. Surface streets are often faster than the freeway for a short hop, and your chauffeur will take whichever is moving.
Appointments at Kaiser and Rancho Los Amigos
Medical visits are a regular reason to book here. Both the Kaiser Permanente Downey Medical Center and Rancho Los Amigos National Rehabilitation Center sit in town. Tell us if the passenger needs a slower pace or a closer drop-off, and we plan the curb ahead of time.
Show nights and space-themed days
The Downey Theatre on Firestone Boulevard hosts performances through the year, and the Columbia Memorial Space Center draws school groups and families. Give us the start time and we set the pickup so you aren’t hunting for parking.
Flying in or out
Long Beach Airport (LGB) is the closest, and LAX is a straight shot west on the 105. John Wayne Airport is further down the 5 and 405. Our Downey airport transfers page walks through each route.
